Diabetic Retinopathy

Diabetic retinopathy screening and treatment have advanced with AI tools and longer-acting biologics. The session covers AI retinal screening (IDx-DR, EyeArt, Aurora) for primary-care deployment, anti-VEGF therapy for diabetic macular edema (aflibercept, ranibizumab, faricimab), high-dose aflibercept and the YOSEMITE/RHINE durability data, PRP timing and indications, equity in retinopathy screening, and the integration of GLP-1 effects on retinopathy (SUSTAIN-6 surprise findings). Discussion addresses imaging beyond fundoscopy (OCT, OCT-angiography in DR), gene therapy for retinopathy (ADVM-022), oral anti-VEGF candidates, vitrectomy indications, and the global epidemiology of vision loss prevention in T2D.
